Our Work

Natural capital is defined as the earth’s stock of natural assets. Those assets are part of the world’s ecosystems, “a geographically specified system of organisms (including humans), and the environment and the processes that control its dynamics” according to the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. Natural Capital Business Roundtables

The Natural Capital Business Roundtables were an effort led by the Department of Commerce (DOC) to help businesses integrate natural capital values into their business models. This effort involved four workshops and one national event. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Economic and Statistics Administration (ESA) are the two DOC bureaus that led the effort.
